Soraya is an artist and educator who has received national recognition for her work with young people and the community. She worked with Take A Part on the redevelopment of Crazy Glue, an arts group in Efford.

Previously Soraya worked with Take A Part on the ‘creativity in our community’ project, delivering mixed media art sessions with a group of children at High View School around the theme of ‘dragonflies’

She has an established and successful track record as an art teacher and is engaged at ground level, leading to work to develop partnerships to provide social and physical improvements for challenged communities in Plymouth. She works at a multidisciplinary level to co-produce projects using a range of media in response to the needs of the site, social context and audience. This includes in-service teacher training and advice to schools on the delivery of the art curriculum. Her creative strategies embrace traditional plastic arts processes, digital projections and installations and stand-alone process led school art projects on a breadth of topics and techniques.

Soraya maintains her participatory practice through a personal involvement in ambitious resident led projects, securing significant funds to raise the profile of the neglected conservation areas and unlock cultural and social capital. Her creative practice is instrumental in developing key partnerships with the public, schools and a diverse range of organisations from the third and public sectors. This profile is evident in the recent physical regeneration of a children’s play space, and its continued development through a rich variety of projects, events and dynamic activities.
